2013 Flash Reel

David Szmit Flash Reel 2013 from David Szmit on Vimeo.

A full update to my flash reel this time, work exclusively from 2013 (mostly the last 4 months). The gifs in older posts can be seen in context (well mostly... there would be a bunch of players around too).

My website is now live:

Let me know what you think.

In other news, I will be attending CTN in Burbank next month. I will be volunteering in the morning and walking around after lunch. I should have an updated game reel by then.

Here are some GIFs that I've made from some of my effects animation on AQ.com.

Adventure Time

Alright so, after a bit of a delay, Cartoon Network has put out the Adventure Time Lego intro I got to help out on last summer.

Adventure Time Title in LEGO from Screen Novelties on Vimeo.

I worked on almost all of the background sets, I assisted animation on the Ice King shot and I created the light glares when the sword sets into the logo.

The smaller studios have the benefit of putting their limited people to work in a variety of jobs. One of the illustrators at Screen Novelties was tasked to animate (after showing her animation work), the lead animator was able to art direct, even the head guys of the company were getting their hands blistered from assembling Legos.

Everyone was extremely willing to teach the interns whatever they wanted. I advise any potential interns, at any place, to ask questions regularly. Networking is all good and well but you're there to learn too.

Drew Barrymore and Kwaku

My first piece of animation for Kwaku Alston has been released. It was a quick project completely shot in one day.

Thanks a ton to Sara Swaty for all the help and guidance.

The Last Year

So, before I get into the summer, here is a quick video update of what I finished last semester at AAU in San Francisco.

Machined my first armature:

Made an experimental film:

Updated my Demo Reel:

I've been in LA doing an internship with Screen Novelties, trying to get to know Stoopid Buddy and hanging out with photographers.   At Screen, I got to help out on a secret project that hasn't been released yet so I will have to update later, as well as the Spongebob Christmas Special.

I have also met some animation heroes of mine including; Max Winston and Pendleton Ward.

When I wasn't at Screen, I was working with Kwaku Alston on a quick stop motion short (I will release it on here soon).  As well as some friends of his doing editing and reenactment for a murder case and helping out Hippo Works with some things as well.

An armature I fabricated and animated:
